Choose a petrol snow blower mainly by the area you clear and the kind of snow you get: clearing width sets how fast you work, and intake height decides whether the machine copes with a drift after a heavy night. For a driveway and path at a house, about 56 cm is usually enough; for a larger yard and heavy, packed snow, a 61 cm machine with a taller housing is the better pick. If you often start equipment in hard frost, electric start saves a lot of effort. Every model in this guide is in our snow blowers category.
Clearing width and intake height: where to start
Clearing width is the strip of snow taken in one pass. The wider it is, the fewer passes you need, but the machine is also bulkier on narrow paths. Intake height (the height of the auger housing) tells you how deep a layer the blower can take in one go without pushing snow ahead of it.
- Paths and a driveway at a house: a narrower machine of about 56 cm is easy to steer between a fence and a parked car.
- Wide driveway, yard or a small business car park: 60–61 cm cuts the number of passes.
- Heavy snowfall, drifts, the ridge a plough leaves at your gate: housing height matters, e.g. 53.5 cm rather than 42.5 cm.
Single-stage or two-stage?
In a single-stage blower one auger both gathers the snow and throws it out of the chute. These machines are lighter and simpler but are meant mainly for fresh, loose snow on a flat, hard surface. In a two-stage blower the auger gathers and breaks up the snow, and a separate impeller throws it far to the side. That handles wet, compacted snow and plough ridges better, and the discharge does not land on the strip you have just cleared.
The Weima WXS0722A, for example, is a two-stage design (auger plus impeller). For all three WEIMA models in the table, the product page lists a 12″ (30 cm) reinforced steel auger and a maximum throw of 12 m.
Power, drive, wheels and frosty starts
Power. Engines of around 200 cc suit home use well. All models here have a 212 cc four-stroke air-cooled engine rated at up to 5 kW / 7 HP, running on 95 octane petrol.
Drive and gears. These are self-propelled machines with forward and reverse gears, so you do not push them through snow, and reverse helps you back out of tight spots. The WXS0722A has 6 forward and 2 reverse gears; the WWS0724B/E and SW600 have 4 forward and 2 reverse.
Wheels or tracks. Tracks grip better on steep driveways and ice, but the machine is slower and harder to turn. Wheels with anti-slip tyres are quicker and more agile, which makes them the most convenient choice on a flat yard or driveway. The WEIMA models here run on wheels.
Electric start. In hard frost the oil thickens and a recoil start can take several strong pulls. The WWS0724B/E has both recoil and electric start, so you start it with a button and keep the cord as a backup. The WXS0722A and SW600 use recoil start.
Which WEIMA model for which area?
Below are the models currently in stock. Areas are a rough guide; specifications come from the product pages, prices as of 24.10.2026.
| Use (rough guide) | Width / intake height | Model | Start | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paths and a house driveway; fresh to moderately heavy snow | 56 cm / 42.5 cm | Weima WXS0722A, 72 kg, 6+2 gears | recoil | approx. 3150 zł |
| Driveway and paved areas; snow in winter, sweeping with a brush off-season | 60 cm / 42.5 cm | Weima 2-in-1 (SW600), auger or 350 mm brush | recoil | approx. 3249 zł |
| Larger yard, plough ridge at the gate, wet and packed snow, frequent frost | 61 cm / 53.5 cm | Weima WWS0724B/E, 73 kg, 4+2 gears | recoil and electric | approx. 4121 zł |
The 2-in-1 model makes sense if you also want to sweep leaves, sand or light fresh snow off paving: the auger is swapped for a brush. For packed drifts, use the auger.
Getting ready for the first start
- Engine oil. Check the level with the dipstick before the first start. According to the product pages, all three models take 0.6 l of SAE 5W-30, a grade that turns over more easily in the cold. The SW600 comes with WEIMA oil in the box.
- Fuel. Fresh 95 octane petrol. The tank holds 3 l (WXS0722A, SW600) or 2.2 l (WWS0724B/E).
- Test run before the season. Start the machine before the first snow, outdoors, never in a closed garage.
- Chute and deflector. Set the throw direction (the chute turns 180–190°) so snow does not hit windows, cars or people.
- Safety. Clear a blocked chute only with the engine off and the auger stopped, using a clearing tool, never your hand.
- After the season. Run the tank dry or drain it and clean salt and moisture off the housing. General engine care tips are in our guide on looking after a petrol engine.
Frequently asked questions
What width do I need for a house driveway?
For a typical driveway and path, about 56 cm is usually enough. If the driveway is wide or there is also a yard, go for 60–61 cm.
Is 7 HP enough for wet snow?
A 212 cc, 7 HP engine is the usual size for two-stage home snow blowers. In very wet snow, go slower in a lower gear and do not take the full width in one pass.
Do I really need electric start?
No, but in hard frost it makes starting much easier. If an older person will use the machine, it is well worth having.
How quickly will I get it?
Items in stock ship within 24–48 h (Poland). We also deliver to other EU countries. You have 14 days to return the product, and it is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
